    Hello ,
    Own a 79 1100sf
Rebuilt the carbs putting back together but can not get plugs to spark. AND
No Horn, No head light , No tail light in park key position
checked ON OFF kill switch, Four main fuses cked good,
Get good voltage at acc fuse > visual ck show nothing unhooked

Starter turns over just fine but nothing else,
I know I f'ed something up but can not figure out what

    ANY Ideas Helpful THANKS Jamie

P.S. Looked in other forums : No threads I could find but if you need to tell me where to go > Be gentle At wits end!

    1. Do you still have the original fuse panel?
    2. Do you have a VOM(Volt Ohm Meter)? if so, check for 12+ Volts with ignition on at the red/white coil wire.
I'll be checking this now and then today to try and walk you through some troubleshooting.

          Sorry, pulled away by SWMBO..
Check the red/white wires in and out of the kill switch. Also, you have a ballast resistor on the bike. If it is open, no spark. You should measure about 3 Ohms resistance through it. It's on the left side frame under the tank, but close to the valve cover.
I'll be looking at the wiring diagram for a few minutes.

Ok, You have power to the coils.
Clean ALL the ground points on the bike! Be sure to check the main ground between the frame and engine. It's behind the left cover, a cross head on the frame to one of the hex bolts on the middle drive gear.
Now for the "spark" part. Use the VOM set to 2000 Ohms and check from the 4 pin connector on the TCI to the pickup coil wires. the top pair and the bottom pair should be connected. Measurement between the two should be between 700 and 740 Ohms. If it's over 820 Ohms, or less than 640 Ohms, you have a problem with the coils or the wires.
An analog VOM (the kind that has a needle instead of an LCD display), it should cause the needle to move as you crank when pushed inside the orange or blue wire at the coils.

I tried to post last night, but the site wigged out before I could click "submit"

How are you checking the plugs?

Each coil fires two plugs simultaneously. so each pair of plugs must be connected and grounded for them to fire.

The simple way to check is to pull one plug at a time and lay the threads against the engine somewhere. Keep the other plugs connected and installed.

....just making sure it isn't a simple measurement technique that makes you think there is no spark.

Oops! Now I remember you also have no horn, taillight or headlight.

                Sorry.

I know you think your fuse panel is pristine, but after 41 years, it's suspect. Those springs get weak.

If you end up having to go there, Mike's XS has an OEM looking replacement that will give you another 30-40 years.

XJ4Ever.com has a no hassle replacement, with upgrade to modern fuses.
