Foreign Object?

Hi all. i removed my gas tank and the fuel sending unit (found a NOS) and I heard an object clanking around in the tank. I was able to remove it. It is about and inch by inch and a half plastic rectangle with a hole drilled in the middle. Is this something from the bike or is this something someone dropped in by accident? Thanks.

Probably the float for the fuel gauge.

Does it attach to the wire on the sending unit?

There should be a bar that it attaches to. That way when its full the float pulls the bar to the top and when empty, the bar is on the bottom.

Thanks, I guess I'll keep it then and not throw it away. I have a new one coming, let's see what it has.

Probbably the float. It attaches to the end of the wire/rod of the unit. Maybe that's why yours didn't work.
