  • Carb boots

    Hi All,
Slowly getting back to the project. Has anyone tried the aftermarket carb boots? looking at changing out the boots but Yamaha wants 70 per boot and aftermarket looks like 100 for the set. Want to use correct parts and not have to fight the fit but I don't want to have to sell the bike to afford them.

    Thanks

I got the Carb boots from mikes xs. A shop put them on for me. Looks great a few years later.

Most of us have used Yamabond or Three bond instead of the gaskets that come with the new boots.

The heat from the head wreaks havoc on the gaskets, plus you get an extra mm of room to install the carbs.

Maybe so, but these parts are the same for ALL XS1100s.

I just got the set from Georgefix on eBay, they were here in a few days and look to be the same as ones I’ve paid far more for. I was happy with them.

I got mine from Parts-n-More. That was more years ago than I remember. They still look as new.

Dumb question but what number of yamabond are you using on the engine?

Yamabond #4 (semi-drying) is what the OEM manual says to use on engine cases.

Some boots are to be avoided!

                      Aquamantx,
I purchased some of the "Inexpensive" boots from a Chinese seller and found them to be defective. There is a thread I posted with photos etc.

Basically, the tuning ports were not positioned properly. I was able to use them with a lot of modifications required. Thankfully, I have access to a full machine shop to make the mods necessary but the boots are useless to most folks.

Review the thread before you buy.

                      Sincerely,
                      KURT

Ok so the new joints showed. Removed the old ones and found that they had no gaskets and the bolts were probably at 3 inch pounds. Cleaned and installed the joints with the Yamabond. Built a carb holder so I can start setting float levels the same. Would add some pics but need to figure that out.

Haha! Ya 3 in-lb is a bit light. I don't know what spec is, but I know that they leak if you torque them too much. It makes the contact area on the boot deform.
