  • 1980 XS1100 new frame?

I have a 1980 xs1100 that I bought a while back. It did have a clear title with it but there is no id label on the neck and the weird thing is there is also no VIN punched into the frame head like all the other Yamahas from that time has. I even took some paint remover and removed the paint where the VIN would normally be and there was no trace of it. Not from sanding it away or anything. Now the engine number does match the number on my title, which is 3H5003502. I find this really weird, but the guy I bought it from said it was all legit. How did Yamaha handle it if you were to purchase a new frame for your bike back in the day.

Replacement frames are just as you describe. I have a 1981 XS650 with one. The neck is blank.
