  • Head light and pipes.

79XS11 Special. Burned out low beam, replaced, burned out low beam. Might have been a faulty bulb. I will monitor. The reserve lighting unit did not work. Flickered on low beam, so I switched to high beam and got home. Do I need the reserve lighting thing? Already unplugged and chucked the relay delay thing, just behind the steering head.

What is everyone doing for pipe replacement. I have 4 into 1 Jardines that work fine, but there are holes developing. The Macs I bought new fell apart, and Yami did not like them much. Running fine on the Jardines, but they will need replacing some day soon.

    Thank you. Unkle Crusty

If your burning out low beams, check the wire harness. If you have a short someplace that causes the voltage to drop at the bulb, that WILL burn them out.
As you said the RSU is not working, that may also be part of the problem. Here is the link to remove the RSU:http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=874

      Dirty Connection?

Recurring bulb failures are usually caused by intermittent power- it shocks the filament each time the power comes on. Seems like a weak connection somewhere. Maybe clean all the related connectors?

        Thank you Diver and Radio.
I will install the new light today, and chuck the stupid and poorly named reserve lighting unit.

One of the most satisfying fixes to date. I got to throw away a stupid part, and have the lights work.
There are no street lights on my Island. At 10 pm this time of year, it is as dark as the inside of a black cow, at night. It is quite obvious when the head light goes out. I was also studying the tip over shut off switch.
