Which version is this? Help needed!

FWIW - I looked at my 78E and it does not have ears folded in under the Pacifico fairing - which I think is a factory install. Will be interesting to hear what he finds...if he buys it.

Those headlamp ears were factory installed and folded inward on the Venturer ONLY. Also, the Venturer model was THE ONLY model XS11 that had fairing and hard case assembly FACTORY installed, as that model was the XS11 model that came from factory as a full-dresser. ALL other model yrs. of the XS11 had either dealer installed or personally installed color matching fairings and luggage cases......in which case, the Venturer 1100 was a last yr. production of the XS1100, and also the least numbers produced......AND the rarest model produced. Dealerships across the U.S. could NOT get another Venturer once the one they had sold....period. That IS factual, and have the facts to prove it from a number of dealerships. BTW, the Pacifico fairing WAS a dealer installation, and was only available on the west coast where they were produced.

Well you know the Venturer, that's for sure! I am just a little puzzled by the missing ears on mine 78e. Maybe just dissapointed. Guess a dealer or some previous owner decided to go to the trouble to remove them when they put the pacifico on.

Possibly, but that would have required the top triple clamp to be removed in order to slide them up and off, then re-install the top triple clamp.

That was a 'duh' moment, sorry Brian. Actually, to totally remove or install headlite ears back on or off, bike on centerstand, block up under motor to keep front off of ground, remove front wheel, loosen upper and lower triple tree pinch housing bolts, slide forks down to lower triple tree, slide in each headlite ear and slide forks back up through headlite mount ears and top triple clamp and in same location at top clamp as they were before removal. Tighten both lower and upper triple tree pinch bolt housings......done.

I looked at the bike, ended up not buying it. The current owner rebuilt the carbs, but did not sync them and the engine was not able to idle. The bike is not registered and insured so I was not able to test ride it.

The owner, however, was willing to ride around the block with me on the back. Engine is strong, started right away, no 2nd or other gear issue.

Appearance is 7 out of 10, seat needs to be recovered, wind screen is scratched.

The main reason I did not buy it was the wide seat, which would not work for my wife. Also, I prefer foot pegs over floor boards, I just want a Standard!

Incorrect...….the two chrome headlite ears are already mounted to front forks and just folded inward when fairing in installed. look, and you'll see them folded inward as they are mounted to upper fork tubes and easily rotate on upper fork tubes.

Mine is a standard. I like it. The rectangle headlight, flush gas cap, running lights, the look of the dash, pipes go all the way back...

Yup.....cept for the tank is even bigger and also, the Venturer comes stock with the upswept Special exhaust. Those are just a few of the differences, considering the Venturer is based off the Standard with a few Special pieces thrown in, along with some internal differences of carbs, etc. being differently done. Also, 81 Venturer 1100 was last yr., least produced, and last XS1100 model produced.
