I miss the 1979 XS1100 I sold years ago.

This XS1100 is on my local Craigslist and I am wondering which version it is:

Is this a "Special" or a "Standard" XS1100?

I would remove the fairing and put another (flat Standard) seat on it.

XS1100 Venturer (standard) and it looks all original - love the gas tank on those.

Others have more expertise, but I think its a rare bike, came only with the fairing and luggage. She looks great.

I was advised to try the fairing when I found my XS, similar to you I wanted to remove it, and glad I left it on. You may want to try it first as well. Great touring bikes that way. Ride all day long ... and keep the bike original !

I forgot to ask: when I remove the fairing, I will need a new headlight and blinkers. Are both readily available?

That is a 1981 XS1100 H Venturer. Looks to be original and in excellent condition. assuming it runs that is a steal of a price for the rarest of the XS11's
IF you do not intend to preserve this excellent example then leave it alone for some one who will.

I wish mine looked as good as that.

I owned one. In fact, a standard seat from a 78 or 79 will not even fit an 80 standard well if I remember correctly. The Venturer has the most comfortable seat IMO of all the standards. The bars are also higher to clear the taller tank which gives a better riding position. I agree that these bikes should not be bastardized. I am not one for leaving everything 100% stock, but the basic configuration should be maintained... That said, I am not rushing out to buy this bike to “save it” and who ever does buy it can do what they wish with it! Keep in mind that removing the faring and bags will look a bit odd with the big tank. Been there, done that. I put all that plastic back on.

Thank you for everyone's input! I respect classic bikes and I fully agree, these bikes should not be butchered. Way too many classic bikes out there that have been irreversibly changed. Hard to find an XS650, 750, 850, 1100 that is unmolested.

In case I end up buying the bike, I will leave the seat and bags on the bike, try it with the fairing. In case I would take off the fairing, I would store it well-protected.

I am planning to look at the bike this afternoon, will report back.

I am not sure but think the headlight bucket is mounted in the fairing ? Mine is in storage so unable to check today.
If removing the fairing i suggest you take a picture of the pigtail to harness connections for reference when fairing is reinstalled.

Incorrect......it DOES fit. The extra two holes for the pop-in rubber bumpers on backside of seat will need to be moved to the rearward holes, then set seat on there and tighten up the two side holder bolts on seat.

Incorrect...….the two chrome headlite ears are already mounted to front forks and just folded inward when fairing in installed. look, and you'll see them folded inward as they are mounted to upper fork tubes and easily rotate on upper fork tubes.

FWIW - I looked at my 78E and it does not have ears folded in under the Pacifico fairing - which I think is a factory install. Will be interesting to hear what he finds...if he buys it.
