  • Steering Head Bearings Loosened

Well, I already knew it'd happen (just based on reading other reports). The question is: how do I retighten them? Do I have to take the front-end back apart to tighten? I erred on the side of caution and left them loose. I knew they were too loose, but decided to roll with it.

I'm hoping someone comes in and says how to do it really simply.

First, with the front tire off the ground, loosen the center stem bolt and the nearby pinch bolt. Loosen the two upper triple tree fork tube pinch bolts. If you have a spanner wrench, loosen the top stem castle nut. A drift with a hammer can also be used. Next, tighten the lower castle but enough where the steering will fall lightly to it's stop. Tighten the upper castle nut and then tighten the center stem bolt to spec. and the other 3 pinsh bolts. See if the steering still falls lightly to the side. If now it is too tight, loosen everything up again and slightly back off the lower castle nut. Tighten everything up again and check. Repeat if necessary until you are satisfied.

My Bagger bike steering bearings loosened considerably after 2000 miles. It probably took about 1.5 turns to get them back to the correct adjustment.

I am able to adjust the 'castle' nuts with the handle bars on using these spanners. I think I got mine from MikesXS:

You probably already have something since you have already changes the bearings.
