  • Kickstarting a cold XJ1100

No thumbnail preview with Facebook links but they mostly work which I suppose is mostly alright.

The wobble in the video is the plastic trash can I used for a camera rest vibrating after the engine started.

Kickstarting my XJ1100 after it sat outside all week.

    That's sweet

I've yet to get my E running with kick starter. I don't like the angle of the lever. I've owned plenty of kick start bikes so that's not it. Jardines don't allow a health down kick and my boot hits the pipe.

Nice you have set it up with the kick start option and that you can kick start it with such ease. Impressive

It's not a hard kick. When it doesn't start that easily, something's wrong and I need to fix it.

My E fires & runs instantly. I see you have an offset / fold-out kick lever that actually clears the pipes/muffler. I have the POS fixed position 90 degree lever. Did I mention POS lever. It hits the pipes. Boot hits the muffler. Without any offset the right leg scrapes down the side of the bike. Can't get a complete down stroke. Maybe with stock pipes the emergency lever would work in a pinch. Really a worthless design on the solid cast L looking lever that came with my E. Using your kick lever my bike would fire right up too. (But your demo: Very Impressive. Highly skilled guru using your knowledge to get a bike at peak of perfection the way you do. Me, like many are envious of your skill) Then the biggie. After riding a Norton for 50,000 miles my knee cap is about ready to fly off. So I'm not going to injure myself and end up in a wheel chair trying to kick start a bike that has electric start.

Have fun on that Cinco de Mayo ride & event. I will at least hit up my local Taco Bell today if I can't find a better alternative.

Jeff, find an '850 Special kicker, they're chromed instead of the 'bleh' steel on the others that'll rust. Seriously, it's not hard to kick these engines, they're smooth.

When you get to Taco Bell today, remember to speak French and make fun of the Monroe Doctrine.
What little help we gave the neighbors to kick the French out of old Meh-hee-co makes today a shared holiday.
