  • Rear brake lh midnight

I have a sticking rear brake on DARKHORSE LH, must be the spooge hole again or bad batch of borsch (brake fluid) ?
I found small rust flakes and rust colored dust in the MC, disassembled cleaned twice now doing it again ? I'm thinking maybe some seal is damaged or ?
    ADVICE PLEASE
Also best place to get a seal kit ? Partzilla $42.99

Rebuild/clean the system, master and caliper. Use DOT5 when you put the new fluid in. Silicone base, doesn't absorb water, won't take off paint. Bad news, you CANNOT mix it with any other fluid.
This is what I had done on my '79's, and never had brake problems after that. JMHO

      LH rear Master Cyl

      Done,
I have not been able to find a rear master cylinder rebuild kit for my XS1100LH.
Not even an after market one....But fortunately I was able to save it by just cleaning it. Who knows how long that will last before the seals need to be replaced. From the research I have done on here, you may have to delink the system and go with an older more readily available system, ( SG or LG), or possibly convert to an XJ1100 MC. If you successfully locate a source for a rebuild kit, please let me know!
      Thanks,
      Bob

        Thanks Bob !
I had checked the caliper but only glanced at the diagram for the MC. Now I checked on the XJ1100 too and it looks like the same MC and same problem, unavailable.

Hope I can get the same results you did with cleaning again instead of wire brushing the steel rusty part I'll use a wire wheel and final soaking in Evaporaust, fingers crossed.

        Good Luck !

For the MC seals, check the bore size on other Yamaha bikes. They usually use off the shelf sizes for seals, as it saves money if they work. Try and find a fitch or digital Yamaha parts list for your bike, and then look for the same size parts for a newer model.

Providing I find a way to cross reference I will provide the part numbers, unless someone has done this before and has the part numbers.
I would not want to be repetitious

If you have the NLA seal part number, look at the last two digits. If it's an -00, try a -10 or -20 instead. Usually numbers are the same part, just different color, or a "fix" by design change, but will work on the older models.

That seems very reasonable for the complete system Andreas. (But I am not the one looking).
