One thing I don't like about my '82 XJ1100 is the linked braking system. A previous owner disabled the link between the rear and left front brake so now the rear brake only affects the rear wheel and the front brake lever only affects the right front disc. I'm trying to get more braking power from the front and was wondering if anyone has fitted the front brake lines/joints from an XS onto an XJ model? I'll probably go with stainless steel braided lines so mostly wondering about the mounting joint and brake line length.

Howdy,,,,,I also have an xj1100 and the single best way to improve both front and rear brakes is to install the braided s.s. lines. Do a search in search and plenty of advice and places to get the full set of lines,,,around 100.00. The difference is night and day, very easy to modulate and much more power than the old factory lines. If you decide to unlink the rear front system, there is also info in the search section. I havent done it yet but its on the bucket list. Get the SS lines and you will be happy, takes about an hour to install and bleed, the front is easy, the back takes more time to bleed........have fun, Mike in SUn DIegomike

forgot to add
forgot to add this info,,,,just by replacing the old lines with the ss lines will give you plenty of added braking from the front with no additional mods. I suggest just installing the ss lines, factory length and it will work wonders.....Mikemike

misread
Hi again, I skipped some of your post,,,the linked brakes have already been unlinked,,,,,by adding a larger bore front master cylinder and two lines from the front brakes to the master with a double line connector you should be good to go, I believe the stock master is not quite large enough for both brakes but some have left it in and it works, just a bit stiff. Maybe get the two s.s. lines for each of the front brakes, run them up to the master and try it out. Just using the ss lines is like night and day. Info is also in the search section....Mike in SUn DIego. The lines are available from a lot of sources,,,,DennisKirk, local shops, etc....mike
