  • Chatter during heavy rear braking

Has anyone ever experienced a sort of chatter during heavy rear braking? As best I can tell it seems to be coming from the housing where the clutch cable connects (on the engine side)
The clutch does not slip or chatter under power.

    Thanks in advance

    Hey Rick,

When you're performing the heavy braking, do you have the clutch lever pulled in, or are you applying the brake with the engine still engaged to the rear wheel? Just wondering if it might be driveshaft spline to final drive slippage due to the rear wheel turning slower than the still engaged engine is able to slow down on decel?

You did say that it sounded like it was coming from the clutch case cover, but might also be the middle drive unit. I would get it up to speed and hold the clutch lever and try hard braking to see if you feel/hear it then.

If not, then it could be just the engine trying to push against the drivetrain due to the rear wheel slowing down faster than the engine is decelerating?

      Hey TC.
      Thanks for the response.

This happens with the clutch lever pulled in. I have not adjusted the clutch in a some time. If it is not disengaging properly it could also do as you say.
      I'll try that first
      Thanks again

Sticky clutch plates? If this is it, the bike will likely slam into 1st gear from a stop. Sticky plates do get better after a while.
