  • Blinkers - old link?

Found this line in an older post on here:

"CyWelch has posted a wiring mod to retain use of auto-cancel feature with LED signal lights and electronic flasher."

Anybody know this link or what the mod is? Tried the search a couple of different ways but came up dry.

About to dive into the flasher system. Lights don't blink or even come on. Thought I would get familiar with the "system" before I start troubleshooting.

Regarding the self-cancel unit under the seat: can the system work without that square box? Mine seems to be missing. Seems there should be a way to jumper it to keep the circuit open if nothing else.

I have an old ginormous metal flasher relay by the fuse block but all it does is buzz when I hit the signals. I had planned to replace it with a new 3 prong relay from the auto parts store but after reading a bit it sounds like 2 prong might be better?

    Thanks!

Yes, use a 2 prong electronic flasher. A 3 prong other than the OEM unit will not work without some modification. The signals will function normally with that small black box under the seat disconnected, just no self cancel.

What I recall was that the you have to ADD load to the system to make the self cancel still function which ,in my opinion, defeats the power saving offered by the LED.
Just my point of view the LED is not an upgrade of the flasher/indicator as it's characteristic is more concentrated than an incandescent bulb and does not give off the "loom' or glow that gives a much "wider" light which increases the likelyhood of being seen.
        Tail and brake lights too.
People with LED headlights find they need driving lights aswell to overcome this limitation.

Yes, good discussion of this with pictures showing the difference on the Valkyrie site.

My issue is that I don't have the small square cancelling box thing that goes under the seat, so I'm trying to circumvent that circuit so I can get blinkers to work. Gonna try the two pronged relay later today when I get home. I don't really care about self cancelling, just prefer to flash rather than arm signal...

            Flasher Mod in Tech Tips

The flasher mod is listed in the Tech Tips Section, under electrical. It shows how to build a flasher unit that retains the self cancelling feature. It works well, I've had it for awhile and never had any problems. I bought the relays at Radio Shack, but they're no longer in business. Not sure where to find them now.

Money can't buy happiness, but it can get you an XS11 and that's a start.

Yeah, Cy died before finalized this but he did kind of do all the leg work on figuring out how everything worked and made a cou ple prototypes of the unit. CBug them tool it and figured out some of the parts to use and built a couple as well and made a parts list and wrote it up. Should all be in the tech tips.
