Does anyone know whether a 2H7 TCI could be used in a pinch on an XJ that uses the 10M TCI? I had a spare that I thought worked but when I plugged it in, it sounds like the bike drops 2 cylinders. Think I could use the 2H7 to limp home 800 miles from XSSE if need be?

I have a 4RO-10 Ignition Unit listed in the parts forum. I am not sure if it would work on an xj. It is for the 81 XS models.

NO! The 2H7 unit is NOT set up to work on the XJ. The unit may fry if you try to ride 800 miles on it.
The XJ unit has all the advance and vacuum curves built in, not mechanical as in the 2H7.

To Follow up on Skids offer,

A fellow Xsive years ago put an 81 4RO TCI on his XJ11, and it worked just fine, with plenty of power and acceleration. The other vac. adv. curve is mostly for fuel conservation during cruising speeds, but it's not essential for running the bike and having POWER, you'll just possibly use a little more fuel during highway speeds. The 4RO TCI has the Cent. adv. curves programmed into it, that's why it will work with the XJ that also has the curves programmed into it.
