Alright well I'm going to look at the carbs again first, seems to me I did something in the cleaning process that caused some change. My original question was to see if that lower voltage might be the problem but it's at full charge now. I'd like to get it back to pre-cleaning level at least before moving on.

When carbs were apart for cleaning, did you replace those teeny idle mixture 0-rings? If not, highly likely there's a vacuum leak past those teeny O-rings. Having 4+ turns out on those mixture screws definitely leads those 0-rings to be a definite suspect.

Yes, actually one of them was a little damaged & i used it anyway, I'll replace them all when I go back. Good thought!

          Up to Par

Alright, I have some good news. November 2016 I bought this bike. What's that 9 months? Well it took that long to sort through it enough to get it running as it should. Seemless acceleration, no hesitation, quick as a 36yr old bike should be. I'm happy. I think this last round of carb issues was that one of the diaphragms wasn't snug in before I closed it up. It needed a veeeeeerrryy thorough carb cleaning and butterfly shaft seals to clear up the low rpm hesitation it used to have. It's a good feeling to know what this bike should feel like. When issues arise, I'll have this to compare to. Anything from here on will be mods, as opposed to restoration. Someone said these are good bikes......when you get them tuned right. Makes a lot of sense now. Thanks

Good to hear that Special is running 'happy' again.
