  • Can I install a shift light on my xs1100 standard?

I don't have a tachometer on my bike and don't really want one. My question is is it possible to just install a shift light instead of putting a tachometer on?

Hi Joe- No disrespect necessary, but do your ears work? There has not been one helmet I've worn, with earbuds and music playing, where I did not hear the engine rev. I grew-up around muscle cars my dad owned. I learned how to shift "listening" to the revs, then applied it on a dirt bike.

Did u grow-up around manual transmission cars? Same premise. Nobody looks at the tach when shifting. Listen and shift. Only time I look at the tach is when I'll gettin' it, and trying to avoid redline.

Unless ur racing, u don't need the tach.

      Re

No offense taken. I'm not worried about every day riding. I'm not trying to install a tach. I just want a shift light for when I'm racing.

When the power is getting soft, shift... You will feel the valves float as you loose the "push", and then you shift. No light needed. Racing is all about the feel of the vehicle, and knowing it. You will know, or you just won't win when you should, it's that easy.

I appreciate the reply. But that still doesn't answer my question. If you don't know just say you don't know. No disrespect, but I'm not here for a riding lesson. I would like to know the answer to my question if anyone could help.

You probably CAN add a shift light, but it will be a bit of a chore. They would probably feed off of one coil, into a "black box", and then a wire to an LED for the light. I know the theory, but have never installed one. This is so you understand what I do know about them.
I DO understand you wanting one, and if you know a little about electronics it should not be too hard to do. OK, here is one I found on a quick "google" search.https://www.healtech-electronics.com/products/slp/

My old Zuki GS550 had a 6 speed shifter light, sorry can't remember how it was configured. I have never heard of an XS having one adapted. You may be the first.
