Just a quick couple of thoughts.
Did you ever get the petcocks to stop leaking? What direction is the handle facing when in the off position compared to the markings on the petcocks?
I also want to say that I have used "Fuel resistant" and it will never quite harden. Although it will stay in place quite well. I had one work for almost 7 years (similar compound) but it crumbled to the touch when I rebuilt the carb's.
Honestly a dab of good old "Seal-All" will work as well and it is fuel proof. Be sure to let it cure all the way and you are golden. So far I am at 6 yrs on this bike and all seems ok. I have only tried it on one bike so results may vary.

I had fuel coming out of my airbox and it was the needle valves sticking, causing the floats to not work. I replaced all of them, and that problem is gone.
