Dude, are you going to be Greg forever, or is the more lovable natured man of the 21st century going to start showing through?
What I like most about you is your heart is as big as Oklahoma is dry in the summer time and you stand by your convictions and beliefs without apology.Last edited by Bonz; 06-13-2017, 07:56 PM.Howard

It works
Howard, it works fine on my XJ. Kudos to you and your buddy with the IR gun.
I made a movie and there's a mild fueling/balance problem that's been nagging me since I got back from down South.
Starting cold with the Enrichener, all pipes around 72 or 73 degrees F.
#1 and #2 warmed up faster than #3 and #4. I'll try to make time to balance the carburetors tomorrow, I have a cool tool to play with.

Just ordered a IR heat gun, always wanted one anyway ~ !
How to use this info ?
You have a head pipe that is hotter than the others ,,,,, I would think that cylinder is running richer than the others ?
Lean it or richen up the others ? ? ?76 XS650 C ROADSTER

The hotter temp headers are leaner. So turn the screws in to raise the temp or turn them out to lower it.Howard

Ray, I'm always off, not even close and L.A. makes it worse.
Skids, no, you can't synch with the Enricheners on but the temperature does tell me what's going on at cold start. The Enricheners are not really adjustable but there are things that can be checked and cleaned like the float bowl jets to help fix a flaky cold start circuit. Joy.
I spent the morning at the dealer getting the warranty claim in gear for some missing mounting straps for my new saddlebags. They were floor display bags and someone swiped the straps but I should have new ones in a couple of days.
Anyway! When I got home the engine was nicely warmed up so I got everything all set up, flipped the tank around, turned on the fuel and nothing came out.
Oops. I put it all back together and slow-putted down to the gas station.
I've been planning to re-synch the carbs and do some other work so I've been pushing the "Be Quiet!" button on the computer to make the Fuel warning go away. I didn't fill the tank so it wouldn't be loaded with fuel when I worked on the engine but I guess I did it too many times.
I got home just in time to get the mail and my new electric oil pressure gauge is here along with the correct brass fittings to hook it up to the engine so I had to check that out. I went back to the garage, got everything all set up again with plenty of fuel in the tank this time and the battery died in the IR thermometer.
Now that I have a new battery in the IR gun, I'm tired and I haven't even done anything yet!-- Scott

I have to try the IR gun trick again tomorrow, it didn't work tonight and there were complications.
The gun would show a very low temp on one side of a pipe and the correct? temp on the other side.
#2 was 95 F measured from the left side of the engine, 160 F measured from the right inner side. Either side would sizzle as wet finger.
It's roughly the same for the other pipes so whatever is going on I can't set a mixture screw using the IR gun I have now.
After that disappointment, the YICS block-off tool got stuck when I started to reassemble the bike and one of the rubber seals tore.
The tool came out but the seal stayed stuck in the far end of the YICS manifold and I just spent two hours fishing out the pieces but I got all of them.
I have another YICS tool I got from Yahman that uses o-rings instead of a section of rubber but I can't find it right now.
It's level. I checked again and all four fuel levels are still correct.
The YICS tool, torn seal and the fishing wire.
Better picture of the torn seal.
It's time to eat so I cooked up some burgers and found the perfect sauce to suit.
I'll try the IR gun again in the morning.-- Scott
