  • First Ride of 2017

Been a long winter!!!!! Last weekend I got Pablo's bike out of the shop and spent this week waking up my rides. Doing all the little things but all three were ready to ride. Took the E out for his maiden voyage without the brake in oil in it. Just a short scoot 10 miles or so and he is soooo smooth. Flasher unit was working until I got about four miles out then it died and I didn't like how my mirrors were set and discovered I have a hole in my shoe so I brought him home and changed out the flasher and reset my mirrors, checked the fluid level again and watched for any leaks. Checked the head bolt torques and all is good. Life is good again. Nice to be back in a saddle! Wish it would just stop raining!

Hey, you're riding! Way to go, still waiting for the other shoe to drop, the one without the hole.

My first ride of 2017-I picked up the bike at my storage unit, put a new vacuum cap on the one carb and warmed up bike as I put on jacket, helmet. Rode my 6 or so miles to work. Nice ride home, but ran again into young teenage girls talking on the cell phone. Waiting for a nice day to ride again.

No one run over, the girl on the cell phone was just being stupid weaving in and out of traffic, no signal being used to change lanes. Its also in a area where if you get pulled over talking on the cell phone, police are fanatical about it and you will get ticketed.

Not to rub it in, but my first ride of 2017 was in January. I have ridden pretty much every month since then.

Next week I will be participating in the second annual motocamping trip with my neighbor and his step-dad. His step-dad has a BMW K100 and he has mad skills in the twisties. This year we will make a base camp in Meadows of Dan at the motorcycle campground and ride in the area for a few days. Hoping that the rain tapers off by then.

It's still dipping down to single digit(C) here over night. Set a record for rainfall in May almost doubling the previous record from 74 years ago. Not sure if I'll bother opening the pool this summer. So far it's been just plain cold and raining everyday, not all day but cloudy and cold everyday.

Sorry to hear that our brothers in Canada are having a foul weather spring. I will have a try at placing a fan on my driveway to blow some of this nice weather up your way.

The problem down this way is that summer heat can be brutal. Last year I did a long ride that was uncomfortably hot even at highway speed. There was no way to beat the heat except get off the bike in a shady spot.

Its been a wet nasty Spring here in the north east too. It was 48 degrees this morning; but it is supposed to warm and sun up this weekend.

I finally took my ride out on Saturday .... oil change, put in new gas, pumped up the tires. It fired right up; smoothed out and idled well after a bit, and I had a short, but nice ride.

I would get a lot more riding in if "work" didn't always get in the way!
