  • Carb replacement ?

Has anyone put 81 special carbs. on a 79 special. I know the airbox is different and the breathing system on the carbs. I've done everything I know to do to my 79 carbs. but I have just one of them that fouls the plug at low RMP. I just don't want to open a whole new can can of worms or should I keep trying on the old carbs. (both sets of carbs. have been cleaned and jetted to factory installed. I have 4 to 2 exhast.)

Well, I have put 81 carbs on a 78E. Almost plug and play! There will be no reason to use the air nipples on the airbox, and you do not want unfiltered air to enter there, so put rubber caps on them...or do what I did and put some screws into them. The carbs may need synched or the fuel mixture screws adjusted, but other than that, I can think of no hang-ups.
