A couple years ago I got the rebuild kit from mikes xs and did the work without removing the carbs from under removing the float bowls.

How long/ many miles should these parts last?

Today, I am ordering from partzilla costing twice as much.

Should never have fuel in air filter. Pull carbs off to work on them. Put fuel to all carbs before disassembly and see which ones are leaking. Disassemble and clean thoroughly. Put in new parts and adjust float levels to specs. The parts you ordered should help solve the leak. But could be as simple as an incorrect float level adjustment.

Put fuel in all carbs while on bench and verify that there are no fuel leaks. Once satisfied, reinstall and sync.

Key to success is to stop/repair all leaks prior to installing onto engine.

Don't forget to check for fuel contamination of the engine oil prior to running engine.

Also consider your vacuum operated petcocks. If you ever replace the holey gaskets, it is very advantageous to sand and polish the valve handles on the contact surfaces and round the hole edges so that they are not sharp. Your holey gaskets will last a long time if you do that. This there is also a plunger and seat in the petcock and you might want to polish the seats for the plunger.

I was able to get a float valve assembly and install from under one carb. It's running great. This is not the proper method. I understand.

#2 carb

So I'm thinking the # 2 carb gets worn sooner with the extra vacuum hose. The O- ring around the float valve holder on the #2 carb was where the gas was leaking from.

I don't follow that at all? The carb is creating vacuum anyway you look at it. Doesn't matter if it has one or a hundred hoses coming out of any one carb.
