  • 1981 H 4-Way Switch Wiring

I disassembled all the handle bar switches and soaked them over night in Evaporust to clean everything up. As I started to put it all back together, noticed a brown wire with a white stripe that is not soldered to anything.

It appears as a result of handling the assembly that the wire is sticking through the small bracket that fastens the horn button in place in the switch housing. Here is another shot after pulling that wire from the small bracket.

It appears that this wire was originally soldered to the 4-way switch just to the right of the dark brown (or black?) wire which is just to the right of the solid brown wire as seen in the picture? I don't want to ignorantly re-solder this wire in the wrong spot! Wasn't having much luck searching for a wiring diagram for an "H" (not sure I could have read it even if I did find it).

I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could steer me in the right direction here.

Oops, hit Submit instead of Preview. Oh well, the Brown/White wire should get soldered back to the switch.

Here's a color schematic for my '80G, the only difference should be the '81H
    doesn't use a Ballast Resistor.

The Dark Green wire is Right Turn hot wire
Chocolate is Left Turn hot wire
Brown/Yellow is hot wire from the Flasher relay
Brown/White is Signal hot wire from the fuse box
    Pink is Horn
    Black is Ground

The image is sized so that you can print it out on four sheets of paper, then tape them together. It makes it easy to read in the garage and keeps greasy fingers off the laptop, phone or phablet. If it gets mangled, print another one.
