I got a 79 special that needed a new back wheel. Ordered one on eBay and it's a 17 I didn't know the special has a 16.... I know how to convert it. I already ordered the caliper bracket. But can someone give me a part number or tell me where to find the spacer that goes inbetween the caliper and the hub? And the spacer that goes on last right before the axle clamp? And help would be much appreciated!!!

Hey Wyatt,
Aside from just the spacers for the different wheel, there are other things that are/were changed with the specials vs. the standards. The sidestand and centerstands are also a little shorter...but with the larger tire, it may tilt a bit more on the side stand. It will be a little easier to pull it up onto the centerstand, but will not necessarily put the rear wheel as high off the ground.
Also, tire selection is more limited with the 17's than the 16's. The larger wheel will reduce the rpms a little bit for the same speed vs. the 16.
http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/parts/home.aspx This is the link to the official Yamaha parts fiche site where you can get the OEM #'s for almost any part you're looking for....but some parts are NO LONGER AVAILABLE from Yamaha or other OEM parts suppliers, so you may have to use eBay anyways.
But also check with Andreas Weiss....member and great parts broker with very fair prices vs. eBay, knows his stuff and these bikes/parts, etc.!
