  • Tach not responding

Have 79 XS1100 special, round instrumentation cluster.

Anybody encounter problem where tachometer not tracking correctly?

It doesn't jump around erratically or anything but moves/responds very slowly...

Rev the bike up and keep it at what I think is 3000-4000, the tach will take about 30-40 secs to reach the correct reading...

Let off on throttle, tach drops very very slowly.

    any thoughts????

I would think that it would be the mechanical mechanism inside the tach that needs to be lubricated. There is an article in this issue of the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club newsletter/magazine on repairing speedos and tachs.

try to oil the mechanic parts inside with silicone spray, don't yuse wd40 ,or put the tachmeter in a oven to melt the driedup oil a bit.
