Today I took a ride with Wingnut (XS1100) and his son-in-law (XJ 750) every thing was running great until about 50 miles in to the trip and I lost two cylinders, I keep it running by using the choke/enricher after about ½ mile it cleared up and run great the next 10 miles to Wingnuts house. Leaving to go home it again dropped two cylinders again I keep it running by using the choke/enricher until I got it home.
Once home I checked the fuel lines for kinks and found none, I took the fuel tank off and put it on the work bench and hooked piece of fuel line to the left petcock and turned it on draining it to a gas can it ran strong. I then switched the line to the right petcock and got a weak dribble, I think I found the problem.
I could not remove the petcock screw (striped screw head) so i took apart the petcock while still on the tank and blow it out with air and reassembled it and presto great fuel flow.
I took it for a spin and it ran great.
I found today’s problem but not the cause, I need to drain the fuel and remove the petcocks and replace the strainer towers. A job for a cold rainy day,
