  • Running Boards

I'm looking into fitting running boards, heel toe gear change and foot brake to me SF. Has any member have pic's to post on the forum? Also is there any stock heel toe gear change and foot brake levers that would fit our machines?

You might want to do a search using "heel toe shifter" or "floorboards." Several threads on this in the past.

Back in the '80s there were a limited number of kits available and sometimes these come up on ebay or other used parts venues.

On my XJ I fitted a heel-toe shifter from a Honda 90 which uses the same spline size, and floorboards designed for a Harley. The floorboards required removing the rivets that hold the stock pegs in place and replacing them with the floorboard mounts that had a peg or stub that fit into the original foot peg mount.

Take a look at J&P Cycle (jpcycles.com) for a selection of floorboards.

I had purchased a set of floorboards on eBay and made my own mounts as the boards didn't have them, reason they were so cheap. The right side mount was a bit longer than the left so the board would clear the brake pedal.

I'll dig around and see if I can find the photos. I've posted them before but don't have them here at work.

Key to making this set-up comfortable is getting the angles of the shifter and floorboard correct. IIRC I put the shifter down one spline from level (front of shifter points down) and floorboards also point slightly down at the front. This is why I suggest using an HD mount; the metric floorboards I have seen are not adjustable. I first saw the HD mounts in a shop in Sturgis but I am guessing any shop that deals with HD accessories would have them. Take a look then try to find the best price on-line.
