    First Year for Tubeless Rims?

    Hi All,

    I've got a 78e with tube-type cast wheels. I want to convert to tubeless. What year Rims do I need to get?

    T believe 80 & 81 were the only years with tubeless 17s. Actually the rear rim converts to tubeless easily, the front wheel is a little different bead configuration and was thought to be a bit unsafe in discussion.

      Tubeless started in '79 mid year. All you need to do on the front is look for the stamp on one of the spokes. The rear is easy, as the two holes for the rim locks are blank, not drilled.
      For the front, the 850/650 front tubless will work.

        The rear rims are the same molding so all that needs to be done is plug the holes for the rim locks.

        On the fronts don't you mean 850/750? 650 rims were spokes and single rotor weren't they Ray?

            Greg, IIRC there were a few 650's with the cast wheel. ALL Yamaha front rims from late '70's on are tapped for rotors on both sides.
