XS11 Friends,
Today, I'm picking up a VERY cheap "E" locally. It's another failed café attempt. One of the primary reasons to grab this bike (I already have plenty) is for a few parts spares and the pretty darn nice looking standard tank.
I will repair as needed and repaint the tank to match my '80 Special Mayberry. The idea is that my wife and I are planning two trips this spring & summer on that SG.
The range on my Special is at/about 120 miles. Typically, I like to stretch my legs at about 100 miles anyway but I would like to push that range a bit further for these trips. I want to install the E tank on the Special for these trips then remove it for normal around town or shorter trips.
I figure I have the following to deal with:

- Phillies Spring Training in Clearwater, FL (475 Miles One Way)
- Panama City Beach, FL (275 Miles One Way)

I figure I have the following to deal with:
- The petcock difference should be simple to deal with as I am not using an OCTY on the Special. If the Standard tank's OEM petcocks are in decent shape I will rebuild them and just add a couple vacuum lines.... EASY.
- I have a spare special seat that I could adjust the front a bit to accommodate the more vertical rear of the Standard Tank.
- I don't know why the idiot light fuel level sender would not work with the Standard Tank? I believe they are the same base configuration having some with experience with Jeff's and Ben's tanks.... Obviously it would not be indicating the same remaining fuel quantity as the special tank due to the configuration differences but it would be an indicator of "Get Some Fuel Idiot!"
- The cap area drain line is a simple addition.
- Is there something else I'm missing or forgetting?
- Anyone else do this? I know the Café guys prefer the Standard tank but does anyone with a predominately stock Special have one mounted?
Thoughts?
