After checking and cleaning all the connectors, the kill switch (which was immaculate), the main ignition switch (also immaculate), checking the plug caps and replacing the plug wires, I was still having the same problem. So, in despair, I looked at the main ground strap connection. I had just replaced the ground strap with a new one last summer. The connection was clean then.
Well, not anymore! There was a layer of rust on the connection spot on the frame. I polished that with a Cratex point, and just to be sure, the grounds on the voltage regulator. And Shazzam! The bike purrs like a kitten.
It just goes to show that you can't take anything for granted. If I had checked that connection at first like I should have, I'd have saved myself a lot of grief.
