    static timing

    i set the timing of my cams today. seemed they were a tooth off.
    also the pickup wires were spliced and put together, but the bike still won't run only backfires.

    can it be the ignition base plate is not set correct?
    what is the best way to do static timing? I got a stoboscope light, but first need the bike to run before i can use that one

    With cyl. #1 on the compression stroke at TDC, the pointer should line up with the 'T' mark on the timing plate and the reluctor should point towards the upper (1+4) pick up coil. The timing marks on the cams should also be lined up with their arrows on the cam caps.

      Hi Ronajon,
      If you do not already have a Manual you can download it from CatatonicBug's web site: http://www.ringler.us/family/mybike.html
      right hand side below the picture of his old bike.
      See 2-7 that is chapter 2 page 7 and 3-43.

      Good luck. If the pick up coil wires have numerous repairs it may be time to replace them with suitably flexible wire.
