  • XJ110J electrical dead

Putting the bike back in service after 16 months idle. I checked the electrical systems and turned the engine over (without the gas tank installed), and everything worked OK. Battery was a little low, so I set up to charge.

Battery in frame, I dummied-up and hooked up the charger--grounding out the positive post to the frame in the process. Everything went dead.

Checked all the fuses, including main. Slapped a multimeter on all fuses and everything OK. Key on, electrical still dead.

Disconnected the battery, pulled it from the frame, and put it on charge overnight. Reinstalled battery, key on, instruments came on, everything looked good. But now, no flashers, and if I attempt to start (turn it over), there's an electrical pop (unknown source/location) and everything goes dead again. I have to disconnect the battery completely, then when I reinstall it, and key on, I get the instruments back.

Not sure where to start looking--any suggestions?

Check for shorting out wires in the headlight bucket, under the gas tank (Rectifier) and behind the fuse box.

      Battery condition after 16 months?

      Electrolyte level in battery?

      Dead battery?

Try jumping it with the car?
