Transmission woes.... Not jumping out but.... Making a sound as if the gears are not quite in contact and skipping along the outside of the gear without making good contact....

Yes, second gear is the only one that is doing this.... I replaced the clutch springs as it was slipping at high revs at first then mid revs.... Heard this sound after I replaced the springs on a test ride. Every other gear does not do this and pulls hard with no clutch slippage..... Any real torque applied in second and this noise happens.

This is on an SG with 44000 miles.... 9000 of which I have done since summer 2015.... Any ideas or maybe second gear is hosed? HELP! thanks in advance....

    Hi Joe,
That would be the dreaded 2nd gear issue. Be very gentle with it until you can fix it.

This all because the shoulders on the dogs are rounded?

Yes. There is a tech tip on how to do the repair and numerous threads and opinions on whether to turn the bike over or hoist it vertical or lying under it.

          Hey Bugg,

As has already been stated, your 2nd gear is skipping...so much that it can't even STAY in gear little bit before it slips out again, can sound like a machine gun. With new springs, the engine is now able to send ALL of the power/torque to the tranny, and the tranny can't handle it anymore.

While you're in there, do the 1st gears as well, or you'll just be back in there soon again. The tech tips explain what's happening, what needs to be done to repair it, NEW gears are NLA, so it's Dremmel time. Whether you decide to swap the washer on 2nd is your choice.

Especially on a 1st time in there I highly suggest flipping the bike over on it's back. YMMV.
