    [QUOTE=Radioguylogs;491764]OverYourHead:

    The only thing missing from this discussion is the rewarding feeling of bringing something useless back to something that is so enjoyable.

    You CAN make it run. The guys here will help clear any hurtles that come up. We see worse bikes come back to life.[QUOTE=Radioguylogs;491764]

    ABSO-FREAKIN'-LUTELY. i went through HELL with my '79, and everyone here helped a TON. i ended up buying an '80SG on a whim because i did REALLY WELL bartending one weekend, and now that has turned out to be my daily rider. I've put my literal blood and sweat into BOTH bikes, but the '80 turned out to be easier to get going, get legal, etc. that thing sat in a garage for 15 years...already had the 79 carbs rebuilt, put the starter solenoid from the 79(AND ALSO REBUILT, WHICH WAS A PAIN IN THE ASS) and the carbs on. brand new battery, and no kidding, it fired RIGHT up, thanks to the help from the crew on here. i'm now obsessed with these bikes, and also this site! i'm on here every day now, haha. going to bring the 79 back to life, and possibly give it to my older brother who just moved here to louisville with me. i DO want to get a two-stroke next...i've wanted a "widow-maker" since my pops first told me about them when i was a kid. Even though he's a seasoned rider/mechanic, he's going to be PISSED. they're ridiculous, and THAT'S WHY I WANT ONE!!!

      follow-up

      To follow-up or cap off this thread, I wanted to thank everyone and update on what I've done. I decided to pass on the offer but did happen upon and purchase this 1982 Virago 920, clean title, for $300. I love the look of the 1st gen Virago. Owner said it ran recently but the carbs were leaking. The battery won't hold a charge but hooked to the charger I could at least see that the digital gauges and all lights work, so that's positive. There is some rust in the fuel tank that I'll try to address with vinegar, rebuild the carbs, new hoses, fork seals/oil, new fluids everywhere, and the front brake reservoir cover is missing and the hose disconnected so I will be rebuilding the front brakes. I've got the front fender, side covers, and a couple other small random bits as well. I just want to get it running and then see where we're at. Any input or guidance is welcomed and appreciated. I'll also be looking for good Virago forums.

        I had a V1100 for a while, sounded like a Harley and had the power of a 750.
