  • Need Help!!!

    Hey Everybody,
    Well I got it done!
And with VERY little (no help) from you guys!
    Strom NEEDS PARTS!!!
He is "ALL ALONE" and apparently NOBODY CARES!!!!!
This is the "LAST CHANCE" for the XS OWNERS to help.

    Here's how it goes...
I found a 'COMPLETE' motor....for the cost of shipping!!!!

NOW all we need to do is GET IT TO SLOVENIA...
It is a "runner" and he can certainly do SOMETHING with a COMPLETE parts motor.
So now I'm taking DONATIONS for the COST TO SHIP A MOTOR TO SLOVENIA....
I know this club has many generous people...who care about the 'other guy'...I've seen this for myself.
    Let's not quit NOW!!
I can certainly do this alone...
But I am not 'seeking glory' and would like to share this with others.

One guy 'pledged' $40.00 and that was a start...
If I have to...I'll give to anyone the equivelant amount of "custom vinyl graphics" to match their 'donation"

IE: If you send in $10.00 I will send you $10..00 worth of "custom vinyl graphics" (of YOUR choosing) to 'offset' your cost!
And I have over a 1/2 MILLION pieces of vectorized art.
AND I can 'create' nearly anything! (adobe streamline)

So please take this opportunity...and help some 'poor guy' in SLOVENIA
It will give you a 'GOOD FEELING'
    And besides...I'll do the leg-work..........
And y'all can 'bask in the glory, with me'

Do you have a Paypal account? I'll do $20. PM or e mail me with your mailing addy if I'll need to send a check. The guys here have been good to me as far as parts sales goes. They financed my Big Bore Project.

Only if you give a public apology to Geezer for what you said about him a few weeks ago, and to me for making me feel REAL STOOPID for getting on you for saying what you did. I had no idea you two knew each other.

Steve, you you know what it will cost to ship?
Does he need any other parts in addition to the motor?
Go ahead and post a Paypal acct to send $ to.
I just sold some handlebars on e-bay($26).
I can forward that to help out.

        All better now...

"Only if you give a public apology to Geezer for what you said about him a few weeks ago, and to me for making me feel REAL STOOPID for getting on you for saying what you did. I had no idea you two knew each other. [/B][/QUOTE]"

John, (and ALL other Texans )
I will glady beg (in public) for Tony's forgivness, if you let me ask you a question...

But please let me first preface my question with this disclaimer:

"My older brother was born in Texas, and I was Born in Pennsylvania.
So we have been 're-fighting' the Civil War for the past 44 years.
He, in fact is a Confederate Captain in the Ozark Alabama Chapter of the Civil war re-enactors.(you can check)

So I am naturally suspicious of Texans
But you, John seem to be a real nice fella'

        Now here's the question...
"what did I say, that needs apologizin' for?"

In MY book if you go around KNOCKIN' my 'Kids' you've gotta fight on your hands...
And Tony Does need to get a life, just ask him...
But I will not lose focus on the real issue here...
And that's helpin' a FRIEND with his XS 1100
SO Tony...you ol'...ferget that...I'm sorry for scaring those Texans into thinkin' you-n-me was gonna hurt each other...and it's ok that you called me a jack-ass...insults like that don't bother me (they're true )

And hey you Guys...I do have a Pay-pal account but how does a "Public reporting system" sound...
IE: When you send money, I'll send a reciept, AND post the amount here, if ANYBODY sends EVEN one dime, then doesn't see it listed here (publicly) THEY can SHOUT it out to everyone else, and that will keep EVERYONE both happy, and in check!
AND if ANYTHING goes wrong, I'll REFUND EVERY penny.
        Whaddya'll think?
AND wait 'till you guys SEE this motor...it's pretty clean...and should be perfect!!!

Besides the guy I'm getting it from GAVE IT TO ME FOR THE COST OF SHIPPING (see what begging can get 'ya?)...so consequently he should have NO reason to lie about it!!

        I'm X-cited...

Wow... I've been internetless for 2 days and a whole lota something going on... LOL

So... lemme do a small copy/paste from an e-mail I sent to Steve...

So.. 1st an update on my situation:
I had a friend over that's been in repairing stuff for years... and we found out my piston rings are... well.. kaka.
So I got my cyls honed, new piston rings ordered, valves will be re-seated, and hopefully that should be it.

(oil rings were... well... there, but well hidden and didn't do anything they were supposed to, 1st rings were pretty bad, 2nd ones almost OK. Since I had a bit lower head gasket, the compression was relatively high.)

2nd piston was scratched badly and was replaced with one from a set I got from one of the POs.
2nd cyl. was a bit scratched, but no biggie. I got em all honed to the same size, for the new piston rings to settle in better and to smoothen the surface a bit.

Now I'm just waiting for new piston rings I ordered. Should be here next week.

Bout my engine... got all new gaskets, valve seals, oil seals, all new crankshaft bearings, new primary shaft bearings and oil seals, new primary chain, new camchain, 2 new valves, new 2nd gear cogs and shift fork, new carb and petcock rebuild kits, new exhaust system, and now freshly honed cyl. and new piston rings.

Anyway... I know a guy who knows a guy who can ship stuff for me inside europe... maybe even overseas, gotta ask.

Thanks for all the effort, but let's put a hold on the situation till I see what's with the motor I got. It would be nice to have a spare, but maybe somebody needs it more than I do.

I expect to put mine back together and get it running some time next week (I hope) and I'll keep you posted on the situation.

Steve, you alredy did an XSive job and a very big thank you for all the effort. Let's keep everybody updated on the situation.
And by the way... I got LOTS of information from you xs11.com guys, lots of help. Cash is not as big of a problem for me as getting the right information to get the bloody thing going (XS that is ). I probbably wouldn't even get this far without this site.

Anyway, I'm gonna make some pics of the whole thing I got going in the garage and post em as soon as I can... got lotsa stuff going on right now.

Thanks again for all the info and everything.... appretiate it.

            LP

I might have an option of "cheaper than usual" shipping... so we can compare quotes.
I'll get some customs info and such as soon as I get the chance.

Steve, please read my signature a little closer...I am from Maine, I just reside in Texas. I am what is referred to as a 'Damn Yankee' down here. I moved here, married a local gal...and STAYED! A good Yankee comes here, marries an 'immigrant' and goes back. I have three kids who are Texans. We also have some North vs. South discussions

"So I am naturally suspicious of Texans "

You're probably a MAXAN (Maine/Texan) and don't even know it.

When was the last time that Texan of yours made you a YANKEE pot roast ?...I'll bet you had at least ten BBq's since then.
                  (they're winning man)

If you wear either a Cowboy hat or boots...forget it...you are a Faux-Texan...and they are the worst kind!

But if huggin' and kissin (Texans or near-Texans) will get this motor to Slovenia...
                  Line 'em up
PS. John, I know they have accents (in Texas) but that, my Man, Is "DAMNED YANKEE"
My first Wife was from ALABAMA!

A "brief" history of the Yankee in Texas

Away back in 1978 nn my Navy days, I made a drive from Maine to California. I was bringing my car to the base where my ship was home ported. Naval air Station, North Island...San Diego. My best friend that I had joined the Navy with was stationed in Corpus Chrisi, so I figured I would drop in and see him. I was driving west on I_10 in Houston when I had to leave the comfort of the freeway for the uncertainty of TX 59. After what seemed like a whole day, I realized that one just doesn't 'drop in' on some one when driving from Houston to Corpus. Well, I finally got there and located my buddy. We headed out to Padre Island, and commenced to gettin' 'faced. We drove about 25 miles down the beach, and then the tide was coming in so I had to drive in softer sand to stay away from the water. I got stuck. Luckily a few 4x4's came by, and were able to get me away from the rising tide, but could not get me to complete safety. My car had to spend the night there on the beach. I figured I'd stay with it, and my buddy got a ride back to town with these guys, and he came back in the morning with a tow truck. The tow truck got me out in no time, and he charged me $100! Shortly after that I didn't feel quite so bad, because about a mile further down the beach was this poor SOB who was in the Army, and his car had gotten flooded. When the tow truck hooked up to him and lifted the front end of his car, the owner opened the door and, just like in a cartoon, water came pouring out of the interior. He was lucky because the water hadn't entered his engine, and it started and ran. It shot a big steam of water out of the exhaust pipe when he hit the throttle though. That was about the only bright spot in an otherwise gloomy morning.
We drove back to the Navy base, and I had to hit my buddy up for a loan to cover my loss of paying the tow truck driver. After showering, and having a couple for the road, I headed toward El Paso and back to I-10. Well after what seemed like another whole day I finally reached I-10. Ahhh, Home free. When I was about 10 miles east of El Paso I got pulled over by a Hiway Patrol for speeding...70 in a 55...I tried to talk my way out of it, explaining what had happened the day before in on Padre Island, but he would have none of it. He told me if I wanted to tell it to a judge, then I was welcome to spend the night in the local 'crowbar hotel', or I could pay the fine right there and be on my way. Well, I followed him to the Post Office of this little podunk town and he gave me a bunch of papers to fill out and sign. I put my $50 in an envelope, and dropped it in the mail. At least he never touched it, so I know that it did get to the court house to cover the fine. That left me with $20 to get from El Paso to San Diego. The officer told me to have a nice day, and I told him to have as nice a day as I was having. I made it to Tucson that evening with $2 and 1/8 tank of gas. I found the nearest Western Union, called my mom on the pay phone in the parking lot, told her what had happened and asked if she could send me some money in the morning. She didn't have it, but she said she would call my Grandfather in Los Angles, and have him call me at the payphone, he did and I explained my situation to him. he said he would send $100 first thing in the morning. I figured I would just crash there in the parking lot, and around 3am I heard a knocking on the drivers windo of my car. It was a cop. He wanted to know what as doing there in the parking lot, so I explained my delimma to him. he must of felt sorry for me, because he didn't give me a loitering ticket, and he even told me that he would drive by frequently to make sure I was alright...or not trying to break in to any of the shops next to the Western Union. That morning, I got my money, and called ahead to my ship to inform them that I would be late in checking in. I was supposed to be there that morning. I talked to the shop Chief petty officer, and being the SOB that he was, he gave me a ration of $#it, and told me to my a$$ there ASAP. as I was AWOL. Well, I hauled it all the way to San Diego. made it there around 5 pm. My car broke hard on the bridge crossing San Diego Bay. had to get towed off the bride. A buddy of min who had an apartment in Coronado (just outside the base) gave me a ride to the boat. I checked in and went backed to my buddy's place and got loaded. The next morning after roll call, the Chief called me into the office for what I thought was going to be a major ass-chewing for being AWOL. He just laughed and extend my leave (vacation) by one day. I was never AWOL, but I was sure as hell scared that I was. Well, my car was FU'd and I had to get rid of it. All because of I got stuck in the sand, and gotten a speeding ticket in Texas. I said I would never go back to that 'God forsaken place' again.Well 11 years later, I'm working for a company owned by the parent of American Airlines, AMR services it its called. I was getting laid off at the job I had with AMR in Louisville, Ky, and the only place trhat I could transfer to was...are you ready for this... Dallas! So here I am.
Just last week, my wife did a pot roast AND a bbq brisket. I don't wear cowboy hats or boots and I can't stand country music. I wear tennis shoes and I don't wear any hats at all. I'm just a "Yankee in Texas"

                      UPDATE: Stroms' Motor

                      HELLO ALL,

                      John,
"Just last week, my wife did a pot roast AND a bbq brisket"
                      Please tell me one thing...
"was there both carrots AND potatoes in that pot roast, was the gravy brown, or red?"
(it could make all the difference)

                      But listen you Guys!!!
Got an update on the motor...My (X-pert) wheelin-n-dealin has now moved the motor 1 State away!!
                      HOWBOUTTHATMRFUNG ?

It's going like this...the motor is pretty far away now...but next month my friend is driving to IDAHO ( OH YEAH!) and he is gonna' bring it there...for a Steak Dinner! (is this GR8,or what!)

So now...another friend has volunteered to drive me there for the cost of fuel!
He has a 3/4 ton truck...and that should do the trick

Now the Motor is worth a Steak Dinner, and about $150.00 in gas.
And that puts it in the Garage!( here in Washington)

Then all we gotta do is...Get it off to Slovenia!

But check this out...I gotta' buddy who used to work for MAERSK (world wide shipping Co. for 10 yrs.) and now works for SAS Airlines, and they BOTH deliver to the 'Baltic States'.
So he is 'looking into it', for us.
And Strom says he has a guy...

This is almost gettin' to be James Bond like, HUH?

So here's the plan so far...
Go to Idaho (next month), buy Steak, get motor, come home.
So how's about everybody SAVING their money until I get that part finished...and then we can go on to the next part...

Crate motor, weigh motor, PAY for the shipping, ship motor...

And that's when EVERYBODY can "sign the card' if you know what I mean (send money)

Please let me know what you guys think

OK... I can maybe get the motor to Slovenia within 10 days, if everything goes to plan and falls in and..... well, but it never does, but it's a possibility.

1st. I have to know where the motor is NOW and where it will be, when packed, weight and ready to send.

Some time ago it cost to send an entire bike from the states to hamburg, germany, bout 250$.
Dunno bout now, but I'll need an address where the thing is, zip code, size and weight to get the estimate.

BTW: all non-european thingies go thru customs, so some sort of a bill or whatever will have to be included... something like:

XS 1100 motor with shipping to Slovenia - $whateverthecostwillbe

This does two things... it does not get delayed for evaluation and I can sort out the paperwork for registration, when I put it in the bike.

The effort taking thing is gonna be packing the motor into the smallest possible package and making it relatively safe. And don't forget to drain out the oil.

2nd... I promised some pics, got em all scanned and stuff, but I gotta find me some webspace, so I will post em ASAP.

I talked to a friend today, he says bout 200$ would get the engine here, but that's not an exact estimate, since I don't have a ZIP code of the engine whereabouts.
I have the money for shipping, so don't worry bout that too much. Getting it all crated and packed is more of a job, so Steve, tell us whatcha need.

Just an update... started the bike yesterday, runs OK.
Don't know bout XSive oil consumption, since I gotta make 40 miles or so for the problem to be apparent.
Gotta break in the engine anyway... new piston rings and cyls. honed press....
Anyhoo.... The engine gets real hot real quick... dunno why yet. Gonna pull the plugs tommorrow.
