  • Chasing Grimlins

Couple of months ago, I posted a thread about lost #2 cylinder. Pulled the carbs, cleaned out the pilots jets, main jets, installed new float needles, seats and o rings, fuel air mix screws, fuel filters, fuel lines and new floats set at 23MM. The bike sits for a few days and sounds likes it's running on 3 cylinders at start up. Doesn't do this every time. Then it clears out and runs ok. Other than that, idles smooth and runs smooth. Plugs look good. Still chasing this. Still can't find the problem with the dead fuel gage in the tach. Found some tachs at t.d. used motorcycle parts in Denver. Probably just go and buy one, install it and see if that fixes the problem. When the motor is cold, take off in 1st gear, let out the clutch, and I hear and feel a noise that sounds like skiitch! Stops when the motor warms up. I think it is the cold Barnett clutch and heavy springs I installed earlier this year. Such as life with an 83'000mi. xs. Keep you guys posted on the chase.

    Pick-up wires

Check your pick-up coil wires for breakage. Remove the spark plug caps from the plug wires and cut a 1/4 inch piece off of each wire. Screw the caps back on.

Last year I installed VF 500 Honda coils with the Dynetec wires and boots. I will check the pick up coils. Seems like they create all kinds of issues. Thanks for the tip.

Sounds to me like there's a carb flooding intermittently.
