Quick carb question (SF carbs on an SG)

I'm about to get a synch-tool in a few hours. Carbs are bench-synched, and the bike runs completely fine while in motion, but has a slight "puhh-puhh" on the idle randomly, yet often. It came with a Mac 4 to 2, and I have pods on it. Rebuilt them completely. Picked 140 mains, and 45 pilots as a starting point, being that the guide I saw on here was from a few years ago, and gasoline has changed a bit since then. I run 89 octane, as suggested by the awesome Ray (DiverRay). Should I center the pilot screws, THEN synch, THEN check the plugs?? I'm just trying to understand why it runs like a BEAST, yet idles weird. No smoke problems, really...I saw a tiny bit creep up a couple hours ago while I was at a stoplight, and only saw it because it was dark. Been running fine, though... ridden about 27 miles since the first start.

*rebuilt the carbs (nearly) completely. New needle/seat, jets, gasket, cleaned, etc.

The idle cct may be a little rich all the time. It is always running in the background and feeds the idle mixture screws. Try putting the 42.5 back in and see if it doesn't clear it up. It will still run strong!
