well i'm taking my friend to look at this beauty this sunday, 33K 1 original owner garaged kept it's whole life. looks minty judging from pictures. Problem she wants $900. because it has electrical problems and won't start. So i'm bringing a fully charged battery and removing my TCI from my 1100G to swap out to see if that is the problem. Aside from the obvious (checking all fuses, electrical connections etc....) what else should I be looking for and worse case scenario how much for a non running pretty 11E?

Getting it to start in-front of the seller will not get the price lowered. There is not much to these bikes. Buy it as non-running, offer her $600, then spend the Winter restoring it. If the tank and plastics are in good condition (exhaust too), it's worth it.1979 XS1100F

Hey Ian:
I think that seller is just listing the fairing and bags, not the bike.-Mike

Spend no more than $600, because it's NOT running! Don't bring a battery, or anything else.
Once your friend has the bike, a T.C. fuse kit, and check the kill switch, and it should run just fine. Those are two of the three major electrical problems on the older, NON P.O.ed, bikes. Third problem is the 6 position connector behind the fuses, from the alternator.
For the $500 touring kit, That is a RARE '79 Pacifico fairing and lower setup! They are MUCH better than the Vetter for top speed and mileage.Ray Matteis

You get to run and the price either goes up or there's no room to negotiate. Years ago I went to look at an ancient '62 Travelall 4x4. "$300, won't stay running". It would fire but not stay running. Got him down to $150, paid up and sealed the deal. Then promptly hooked a hot wire to the run side of the new ingition switch he had wired wrong. Fired right up and I drove it home. PO failed to mention to brakes were bad to non existent. Keep it 5 years. Sold it for $500.When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger
