I did it just to see if it could be done. The tools have to be put in the bag and arranged in exactly the correct way or it won't work and it's not really worth the effort.

The left-hand side cover locks in place so rare or not rare it's not going anywhere unless something physically bad happens and then that rare side cover is going to be the least of your worries.

The baggies do degrade over time from fumes/ozone/I don't know what but that wire's been in one baggie or another with the clip holding it under the side cover since I got the bike back in 2007.

Does the LEO go weird when he sees the monster cable while you are getting your registration from under the cover?

You know that cable if twisted and rolled correctly goes under the black cover on the side cover mine came in there when the bike was new. You can fight it in the tool kit and fight the tool kit into the box but its a pain in the anus.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

The police are always pretty calm when the'y pull me over and the wire hasn't seemed to bother any of them so far but that's probably just because they've got one hand covering their sidearm at all times. If I tried really hard I suppose I might get lucky and leave a really nasty red mark before they emptied the clip into me and stopped to reload.

That wire's enough trouble to unroll and use with just the fairly relaxed loops it's in when it's under the side cover, it doesn't need any more twisting and rolling!

I don't want to break one of the wires in the weave either, then I'd have to replace it or get stabbed and cut every time I try to use it.

I found out the storage place, and came back to share, but you guys figured it out I see. Here's a pic anyway.

            Unfortunately, mine is empty.

Yup......was exactly where cable assembly was stored on my Venturer when I bought bike new......and BTW, still rollin' fine with 82K original miles and absolutely original wiring throughout bike.

I've only been pulled over on the bike twice in 8 years, but never been asked to show registration. Both times were inside the state I was registered in. In-state Cops can look up registration (and even insurance status) on their computers using the plate number now, so that may be why.

This thread makes me glad I don't have a standard. I do wish I had a Venturer though, for the extra fuel capacity!

As previously written, the Standard rear fender WILL swing up to clear the wheel.

That's precisely why it has a hinge on it!!!

I've been pulled over in and out of my home State and I have not had any problem but of course I have not tried to go all Mandy Patinkin and wave the wire at them while proclaiming that my name is Inigo Montoya.

                        My name is Inego Montoya.

What are you exclaiming about, Randy?

Yes, the fender is hinged. The wire hook tool and the lever are used to lift the axle clear of the mufflers on the Standard models so you can take it out of the swing arm.

After you remove the axle, then you lift the rear fender and remove the rear wheel.
