    Is my Air Filter stuck?

    ...or what?

I bought a new K&N, went to remove the old one which is made of perforated metal with the filter material behind.

I see the ridge at each end that looks to be for centring the filter. I pulled, pushed, even tried a little prying with screwdriver, but didn't want to do damage.

Is this thing glued in place or what?

Grab your tin snips and cut that thing so it collapses and pull it out of there. Yes, things like this can get stuck with many heat cycles.

Hopefully you removed the four wing-nuts bottomside of lower housing.

LOL, yes, I did undo the wing nuts and take the tray out.

I guess I'll do the tin snips trick tomorrow.

        Thanks.

All the XS11s have a similar setup, right (not XJ, of course)? I changed my '81 air filter for a Hi-Flo filter recently and it was tough to remove the old one, but even tougher to get the new one pushed over the ridge. The good news is it's a tight fit and not going anywhere!
