Mack - thanks for the link; I may attempt a similar project at some point here. I've got a seat pan for a non-stock seat. It's the wrong shape, but it looks like the pan itself is the same dimension as the original Special seat, which I want to replicate.

Going through this site now: http://www.diymotorcycleseat.com/foam_types.htm

And this as place to buy the foam: http://www.foambymail.com/open-cell-foam.html

I'm wondering what your recipe was like. Firm bonded stuff on the bottom, then medium, then soft stuff on top?

1st B and H seat cover, October 2013 in Kansas after XSSE:

It's a fully stitched cover so it will eventually crack (after ~ 8 years) along the stitching like, "Tear along dotted line."

      2nd B and H seat cover:

They do excellent work and I liked the first one so I got another one. They already had the pattern this time because I had to ship my seat to Texas for the first cover.

          XS1100 Standard Seat

I'm a new member here (thanks TC!) and have been doing a lot of research on this issue before posting this question.

Is there any company or person who sells an OEM-style reproduction seat for the '78-79 XS Eleven standard model (non-special)?

I've been casually looking to purchase an XS Eleven, but every one I've seen has a completely worn out seat or one of those hideous king/queen seats. I've found some vinyl seat covers in a ribbed design, but nothing that has the original diamond pattern of the first XS Elevens. That seat got rave reviews by the motorcycle press and it looks right on the bike.

I would eventually like to have an Eleven that looks like it just left the showroom, not a cafe bike, not a custom... just a pristine original. Is it possible?

          Thanks!

          Chris

            How about foam

As long as we're on the subject, how about replacing the foam? Mine is about sacked out. What should I use to replace it?

I'm in the same boat. I'm looking here:

I think I'm going to order some rebond, or firm closed-cell, for the bottom layer, then some polyeurethane softer stuff for the top. And maybe some neoprene as a thin layer before the vinyl.

But haven't pulled the trigger on that yet!

                Dis-covers

I received 4 free material samples in the mail from Dis-covers out the UK, back in September and never went further, but I think I will be going with their product.

It appears to be closest to OEM, and a good price. I selected the pattern that looks closest to my seat.

                Here is the ebay site.

I welcome any advice or comments before I get off my wallet and order it.

It looks good and it's from a somehow available from Commonwealth country so you're less likely to get your wallet totally customized by Candian Customs if you ordered from my favorite, B&H Specialties aka motorcycleseatcovers.com:-

                    Hi Brian,
I would risk your money on that certainly looks like the right one. Of course many will be interested in how it turns out. The British Pound is not doing very well at the moment so now is a good time to get off your wallet and buy If it does not work out I'll buy the $5 breakfast special.....
so I have some skin in the game

My seat arrived home! I'm pretty happy with it. Nice thick material and looks like the old one only new. The pic with a bee on it is the old one. Found the little hitch hiker when I got off the bike one day after a ride.

                        Hi Brian,
Nice looking cover. I take it you have not mounted it yet?
Many will be interested to hear how you get on fitting it and pictures of the result. Maybe after XSEast?
