The small spring (90568-10362-00) has been unavailable for a long time. The large spring (90508-29361-00) has just recently become unavailable but there are still some new ones out there listed on US Ebay and Canada Ebay.
buy from here. Crazy Steve you are the spring guy, how about it. can we finally get a lazy spring replaced. I'll take three of each. Don't care what the cost is as long as excess over head goes to xs 11. Lets face it, the tranny in these devils are the sore point! I've blown a couple shifts in the last three years and It's because the return springs are lazy, not me.
Your last reply caught my attention with regards to your complaint about misshifts. The little springs on the shift pawl just allow the pawl to grab the shift drum, as long as there's enough tension on it to keep the pawl against the drum, then it's okay.
MisShifts especially downshifts from the shift lever not coming back up and resetting the ratchet/pawl to the next drum pin is due to a weak shift lever return spring, not the pawl springs. And as far as I know, the main shift lever return spring is still available and what you need to replace if your lever isn't returning back up to the normal position.

Your OCD is showing! When I did my rebuild in 2000, I replaced my shift lever spring, but the pawl springs were just fine, and still are. They are a lighter weight wire/spring material and aren't under a lot of stress and so I think are less likely to get SPRUNG or otherwise wear out compared to the heavy return spring.
However, you might be able to find a similar design from a newer Yamaha model that could be used/adapted if you were really hard up to replace them. JAT!
