  • XJ 1100 First bike!!

    Hi there folks,

First time posting on a forum, first bike ever and so far I'm loving it!
Odometer indicate 15k but it might have been changed for all I know.

She runs good and idle good.
But is a pain to start when cold.
I took out the carbs for a cleanup and I'll see how she does this week.

Anyhow, I've been reading a lot on this site and it helped and still helps me with adjustement and maintenance that it needs done.

I'll be asking for your wisdom from now on

    same bike

HI Vlad,,,I have the same bike, xj1100 and it also rocks. I could suggest a couple things to make your xj smile

    1. change spark plugs, new ones will help with starting
    2. install two inline gas filters if not done already
    3. make sure battery is good, an old one wont start the bike easily
    4. adjust the cam chain tensioner,,,5 minute job, use manual
    5. change oil, engine, filter, middle drive
    6. lube speedo cable
    7. change front fork oil, use Festus oil change for 10 minute job
    8. These xj1100 bikes do start quick but warm up very slowly because they run very lean with the valve setup,,,I usually start and leave choke on and just take off and slowly open the choke as I am riding.

    Have fun,,,,Mike in Sun Diego

Having had carbs off for cleanin', you'll also HAVE to re-sync them. The XJ requires the block-off piece inserted prior to carb sync as I'm sure your already aware of from the sites instructions here.

        Hey Vladmir,

Not sure if you've found the carb 101 thread, but a big part of ensuring a good easy starting bike is with the carbs, cleaning the enrichener JET in the float bowl...it clogs easily, and when clogged, it won't supply the circuit with the extra fuel needed for cold starts.

          Welcome

The madness is progressive. Once you get it dialed in you will love it even more. You said this is your first bike ever? Beware of this beast as it has more power than stop. Go take the motorcycle safety course, oh and we love pictures.

            Vlad,
Good thing to remember while riding one of these ole' XS11's is that accelerate extremely quick, corner, and stop............just no two at the same time.
