  • Cafe Build Obstacles

Hello guys I just started my cafe build yesterday and have run into a couple roadblocks. This is my first bike/ build so not the most experienced guy here. Hopefully you guys can guide me in the right direction.
    1) Clubmans dont fit since the stock triple tree is huge. Think I might be forced to go with clip ons
    2) When I removed the throttle tube assembly I discovered it was severely cracked. Anyone know of a good replacement one, possibly aluminum?
    3) I started playing with the seat looking for something that can work but the proportions don't match my tank and seem to be to narrow. Anyone out there with a cafe seat?
    Thanks in advance guys

That is what makes these bikes not good for cafe/bobber bikes, there just isn't any aftermarket support. If you want something you need to be able to do some of the fabrication yourself.

    1) Clubman bars will hit the tank. You can put risers on to bring the bar level up to clear any obstructions if you are that dead set on using clubmans. Clip on also cause problems with the headlight ears, plus they are really uncomfortable.

    2) Mike's XS sells replacement throttle tubes. Or plenty on ebay.

    3) The seat is going to take some fabrication skills cause no one makes one. You either don't yourself or pay a upholstery shop to make one for you.

      Think this will work?

I am not so concerned about the comfortability since its only a 7 minute ride to school
Now as far as the throttle tube I see there are a handful out there, but are they are a universal deal or is there something specific to look for?

I don't know how much you would need to raise the bars. Those would work as risers though.

This I am pretty sure is the correct but maybe not,

This is the OEM one which includes the grip and I think that is the only difference between the 2 links.

I have "comfort" clubmans on my café. Got on ebay...

They fit with no risers in stock clamps. You might need to shorten the clutch cable and brake lines though.

I had really good luck with building the seat pan from fiberglass. Then using floor padding (that they gave me 10 times more then I needed for $5). The tough part is the seat cover. I tried just stretching some material over it and honestly it looked like crap. If you have access to someone that is handy with a sewing machine and has a heavier machine then you can get it done pretty cheap. Otherwise like it was said earlier, you will need to find an upholster for your newly formed seat. its really not that hard to make the new seat pan and padding. Then you get it to look and feel how you want.
