  • 79 SF Pod Filters

Hello all my bike came with no air filter set up and now that I finally got it running, I need to resolve that issue. I don't necessarily want to use the factory air box and have been considering using pod filters, however I hear they make the bike behave erratically. Anyone have any experience with them? I would ride the bike daily, but only to school which is a 2 mile drive.

    UNI pods

don't seem to act much different than the stock air box for me. I might do some fine tuning when switching one to the other, most times not. They are less $ than the K&Ns and more than the Emgo pods.
The Emgo pods are the ones that need stacks and or trimming to keep them away from the intake, (air, enriching jets) in the intake bell of the carbs. If in doubt run a short run without filters, use a road that has as little dust as you can possibly find.

The pod filters, second ones down on the page, part # 15-0035, will work fine on your 79SF with no modifications to the filter.

This is sometimes a touchy subject with ample numbers on both sides. I have run pods for many, many years. K&N's, Emgo's and one other I do not remember. For the past several years I have run the Mikes XS filters with great results.

A lot of people say that pods cause a lag in low end performance and require a jet changes. Before I switched to newer Keihin carbs I managed to land on a jet combination of 142.5 on the mains and 42.5 on the pilot jets.

You will have to put a small filter on the crankcase vent tube

        Have fun!

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.
