Anybody know where to get a couple of the brass petcock nipples for the hose connection?
I had one pull out of the bottom of the petcock some time ago and it's never been right since.
It can leak and doesn't really stay put as it should when I shove it back in.

    petcock nipple

check petcock nipple for cracks or scratches.
back petcock with wood, wood on nipple, give a good wack with hammer.
this worked and is still working for me.

Actually Dean, since your dealing with a highly flammable product, and you don't want to have it leaking somewhere, I'd remove the petcock, take apart and thoroughly lean, then have the petcock nipple permanently silver-soldered in place. Not worth taking chances associated with leaking gasoline.

Petcocks were cleaned/new parts last year.
I have a soldering iron and gun but wouldn't know how to do this. No idea what type of solder I have.
I guess this doesn't look so good eh?

....ooks fine Dean......just remove, disassemble petcock so fiber or gasket material doesn't get damaged. Use a propane bottle to pre-heat components, and 'sweat' solder nipple in place using a pair of pliers on nipple so's ya' don't burn the fingers. Acid core solder on both pieces, and THEN 'sweat' them together once in place(once in place, heat solder to melting point, then let cool....done).

Anybody have a clever way to test petcocks for leakage when they are off the tank?

So, first question: did you get that fuel line connection 'sweat' soldered back into petcock?

                Nope.
Remembered I had the two petcocks taken off and refreshed from the spare bike.
Just need to know if they are or are not leaking.

When working on petcocks, anything to do other than clean and replace the rubber parts? Seem to remember someone mentioned doing a little finish sanding somewhere?

Some here in the past have polished the internal flat metal piece(petcock pivot) that rides against the diaphragm. This has been done with a piece of wet'r'dry sandpaper flat on table, smoothing up backside of that piece.
