  • Looking for a kickstarter lever for a 78

Hi all. I am looking for a kickstarter lever for my 1978 standard. I read on here somewhere that the Suzuki GS850 lever was a bolt on, but the one I bought has a different spindle size and now I'm a little gunshy buying another one. Can anyone point me to one that will definitely work?

Also, I have a Suzuki GS850 kickstarter lever for sale!

    Thanks!

I had bought one to put on my 78E but gave the bike to my son-in-law before I even tried it. If I can find it, it's yours for $5 + shipping cost. It was off a xs750 IIRC.

Is it a fold away kicker? If so I'd love to take it off your hands!

Did you test fit it on the bike before you gave it away? Just to make sure, can you measure the inside diameter of the clamp? My spindle measures 18mm with a flat side.

It is the fold away type (I still have the original one also). It was on my son 81 SH (he put the kick start parts from as 78E) So I know it fits but I do need to find it.

No offense meant, but did you look for it in its stowed location under the battery box on the bike?

Just slightly above and behind the kick start spindle there is a black cover and a wing nut. Remove the wing nut and the kicker pulled out.

I'm 100% sure its not there since the battery box has been removed.

Pretty sure it doesn't connect to the battery box, just sits under it. It connects to clips on the frame.

With a dead battery can you kick start a 79? What about voltage to the TCI?

Nope. TCI still needs to have roughly 10v to it. Only situation the kicker is useful is if the battery is weak and the starter is too much of a draw for it to handle, or starter is not working.

Or if you think it makes you look cool to kick start a bike, debatable though whether or not this one works.
