Seat cover

Hi all. I'm hoping someone may be able to identify the manufacturer of my seat. I bought the seat a few months back knowing that it had a few splits in the cover. I've taped over the splits for now but would like to get it recovered. I could just take it to a seat upholsters and get a bespoke cover made but if I could get a manufactured cover it would be less expensive. It looks different to the images of Saddleman seats I've looked at online, in the fact its not so high at the back of the pillion seat. It has an original Yamaha seat base with the fuel line diagram. Am I right in thinking that Yamaha offered optional style seats when these models were first sold? Any help would be much appreciated

Yes they did....back then through Yamaha Accessories, along with a whole lota' other options such as the chrome caliper covers, side bar multi lights that mounted on sidecase frame work, color/pinstripe matching tail trunks, etc.,etc.. Can tell by pattern design, that IS a touring optional seat from Yamaha Accessories.

Yeppers, that IS the touring optional seat from Yamaha Accessories back in the day. Sewn pattern was the deciding factor. Following the length of the bottom edge,it being straight, that one was Standard specific. If my memory serves me correctly, Yamaha Accessories didn't make a touring optional seat for the Specials. Specials were just considered a 'bar hopper' bike anyways. The Special seats dipped down a bit at base following the angled top line of the sidecovers, and then back upward leveling out at start of passenger area.

Thanks for the info. Thats interesting if it is a original Yamaha option, guess that makes finding a cover pretty much out of the question The only thing thats confusing me now is which model the seat was intended for originally as it has the fuel line diagram sticker, which I thought was only fitted to Specials? Also it has no cut out at the rear of the pan for a cowl, like on the E's and F's. The guy I bought it from said it was removed from his SF, any ideas?

Hi Robbo,
I have one of those on my 81H. Sort of fits. No cowel just YAMAHA painted on the back. it is quite comfortable.
I wonder about yours: It would not surprise me if your foam was cut down from a King/Queen seat before installing that cover.

robbo, There is a company in Hust, TX that does a nice job on seat covers. B&H specialties, motorcycleseatcovers.com. IF they do not have the pattern for the seat, you can send in your old cover and they will make one for you. I've bought one cover for my MNS, and one for a standard. Both fit well, and were not that bad to install.
OOPS! just noticed you are in the UK. I'm not sure what the shipping will be, but the covers are about $115 US.

I did think today that it may have come from a G or H Not sure the cover would have fitted quite so well if the foam had been cut down, but hey who knows

No I like the seat its really comfy, besides its not long come over from the States, I'm not sending it back

I have that same seat on my 79F. I bought it on fleabay several years ago. I know it was made for an E or F (identical) cause it had the cowl for the brain box on it. I always wondered who made it. So it WAS a Yammie accessory. That is one comfy seat, but mine is showing a lot of wear. I have been looking for a replacement cover, and this is the first of these seats I have seen anywhere. So, a cover would be as scarce as hen's teeth.

Chrome caliper covers, they would be nice. So has anyone ever seen any or even better own any? Were they for front, back or both?

Not just the seat.I think that vendor has an 81H as he is selling the Venturer Tank for $41 and there is a saddle bag visible too.
