  • USB Port

    Hi Guys.
Cant have been here for a while, I see a few new names i dont recognise.

I'm on the point of buying another SG, as long as I can talk the current owner into parting with it for sensible money.

Getting there but its been a long discussion.

Question. Has anybody fitted a USB power outlet on their bikes and what sort did you use. I'm going to put one on my XJR, which is naked so i need a good waterproof unit. There's heaps of them on Fleabay but it's hard to take the word of some Chinese seller who cant even spell USB properly.

    Any advice?

    USB Mounted x2

    b.Walker,
I installed one on my XS11 and it worked so well I put one on my other XS11. The one I use is a Chinese item but comes from a seller in New Jersey. It has an integral bar clamp, an on/off switch, and one USB port. it also has a decent rubber cover and I have had no problems with them getting wet. I use this for my TomTom mainly but have used it to charge my cell phone.

"hi-autopia" is the Evil-Bay Seller of the one I am using. The cost is only $7.69 including shipping. There may be others cheaper from China but this seller got them to my door in only a couple days.

Here is mine on my DUCK.

    Hope that helps.

Sometimes Brian, when you post, all I see is, "..... XJR ....."

Never even thought about hooking up a USB. Never had a use for one, until now.
      Good info, Kurt. Thanks

I have this on my FJR. It sort of tucks away into the fairing. It requires having the fused battery tender pigtail installed from the battery to the fairing.

I have used these on several different things, not on the bike though cause I just plug into the cigarette lighter. They have a little rubber plug over them to keep some water out. Of course they are not going to stay dry in a deluge but normal everyday rain should be fine. This style would work best in a fairing though, not on bars.

Thanks Kurt. I seen one of those on fleabay and almost bought it but wasnt sure about the waterproof aspect, especially with the switch. I dont have a fairing to hide it behind (they just dont look right on an XJR) so it'll be in the elements all the time, and this far south of the equator we get some elements.
I'll mainly use it for my gopro, which has a dummy battery with a permanent power supply so it'll have a plug in it while on the road, which could be an issue in the rain, but based on your experience i'll give one a try and see what happens.

Hey Kat. When are you buying yours? I can ship one over for you if you want...

I like the look of that battery tender, half century. I already have the right connection for that on my bike. I plug my charger into it after every ride. Where did you get that from?

and Nate, that outlet looks good but i simply have nowhere to put it on my bike. Could be a useful addition to the truck though. getting a little sick of continually looking for those cigarette lighter adapter things.

I picked one up at Walmart a few years ago. Added a live fused line from the battery and mounted it to the handlebars near the tree. Works great!

I just use the cig lighter port in the fairing, and plug in whatever accessory I need. I have a USB thingy with a retractable cord on it that I use for my phone.

Went drooling on Goldwings the other day, and noticed that they have a USB port hard-wired into the trunk! Not sure why I'd want to plug something in way back there though. I need the power up on the bars where my phone is clamped!
