  • Bought an XJ1100

Last weekend myself and a couple family members made the 3 hour trip to Milwaukee to buy this XJ from Gordon, the original owner. It was a pleasure to talk to him and hear his stories of owning this bike for over 30 years.

The past few days I've been messing with it a bit, as the calipers are sticking and the fuel system need attention. I've ordered new intake manifold boots to replace when I pull the carbs. I'll probably use this thread to post updates and share pictures, as I'm sure there's going to be many questions in the future.

Anyhow here's a few pics to start off with, looking forward to learning all I can about this piece of art

    Blk86Trbo,
That truly is a piece of art. The Maxim 1100 is in most every way the pinnacle of the XS/XJ 1100 series. None of the manufacturers make anything today that is comparable in style and performance. It appears that your XJ is in unbelievable great condition. Personally, I don't know much about the various full fairings but that one is absolutely COOL! Although I it is unlikely I would ever mount a WindJammer style on one of my 11's, I would mount one of those in a MINUTE!

    Welcome to the site....

    Sincerely,
    KURT

Welcome! Your XJ looks to be a very well cared for specimen. Here is my XJ

My front calipers were seized and the front master cylinder was a dried mess of gunk.

The rebuild kits for the front master and the calipers are relatively inexpensive for how important the brakes are.

Your fuse box is one of the most important things to update. I pulled a fuse from my fuse box and the retaining clip crumbled.

I am jealous of your fairing and your rear luggage rack. The rack is a rare item.

The stock horns on my XJ were almost inaudible. I upgraded to some inexpensive loud horns from FleaBay.

Ironically a few days ago I was explaining things to a coworker, mentioning the digital display and the function test it goes through upon startup. He disappointingly wrinkled his brow and mentioned how his 2006 (?) sportbike isn't even optioned with that.

Thanks for the tip. Fortunately Gordon must have taken your advice some time in the past, as he has already performed this update.

Gordon also saved a bunch of brochures, the original bill of sale, receipts, etc. Included was this brochure, the inner picture is my favorite.

Some other stuff that's really interesting are the original installation instructions for the X-1 fairing, detachable luggage, and the top case...which incidentally all appear to be legit factory Yamaha accessories. I'll post some pictures of those later...it's really nice outside and I need to make the most of this nice weather.

                Talk to you all later!

                  Hey Paul,

You lost the first photos, must have moved or deleted the bike photos? I went to your album, but unlike your other albums, you have your XJ11 album set to PRIVATE, so I couldn't view it to see if the bike photos were in there??? I can correct the first post's photo links if you'll put your photos in your XJ11 folder, either send me the IMG URL in a PM, or if the folder is made public, then I can find them and replace the links in the first post. Let me know!

PS, yes that brochure is cool, does look familiar though!

And, if you delete the photos from photobucket or move them to an album there, they vanish here.

                    FYI.

Yeah guys I moved the pictures into a different folder on photobucket and I wasn't able to edit this thread in time...TC, you should have a PM in it with the proper links, thank you.

Here's a quick couple pictures of the detachable luggage bags. They are really easy to install, super quick design.

Are the first 3 pics in the previous post orientated incorrectly? My monitor shows them orientated wrong, but I edited them on photobucket numerous times, over and over again trying to situate them properly...that site is gonna give me a stroke I swear
