  • XS1100 triple clamp => XJ1100 forks?

I love my XJ1100. I mostly hate the handlebars.

Are the XS1100 and XJ1100 triple clamps interchangeable? I would love to have an XS1100 top triple clamp and some EMGO chrome handlebars on the venerable XJ1100.

I am in the process of doing this conversion on my 2003 FJR1300. I have changed out the mostly ugly clip ons for an LSL superbike bar. The final phase is to have the EMGO classic bar with much more pull-back . This requires a new longer front brake cable.

Here's one way you can do it:

    http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37557

I have an extra top Standard triple clamp if ya need it.

Also, now that I look at the link, Virago's are set up with bolt on clamps.
If ya need measurements I can help ya out as I have an XV700.

FYI.....the air adjustable forks incorporate the top triple tree clamp on the XJ.

You would be better off changing the whole setup to either a Special or an 80-81 Standard w/air adjustable forks

That would encompass calipers and rotors as well, yes? Essentially the entire front end?

Good ideas. Thanks to everybody who chimed in.

After looking at some Bobber threads, I am thinking that an adapter may be the best route. Leave everything stock from the ground up through the top triple clamp. Figure out how to adapt from the stock top triple clamp to some 7/8" bar risers.

I may buy an XJ1100 top triple clamp and play with that on the work bench.

Having a look at the bike, something like this may work.

I changed my 79F bars to the XJs you are eliminating. I really like them. If I paid the shipping, would you send the bars and the mounts to me?

lol. I much prefer the XJ bars to the XS as well. They're a LOT stronger as well, but to each his own. If everyone liked the same thing, blondes would be in short supply, there'd be no Brussel sprouts or cooked carrots, and everybody would detest loud pipes. Assuming.. everyone thought like I do.

I will let you guys know if/when I remove the XJ handlebars. The kernel of the idea is just forming. Its not a fully baked idea.

Well, W C, I would not reduce the supply of blondes, but I like Brussel sprouts and cooked carrots, but I really HATE loud pipes, like the Harley owners like to have. I am grateful to one Hardley owner, he bought a new H D, threw away the road king muffs, and I then replaced my burned/rusted out muffs with them. Really improved the performance of my F.

Yup, after a crash with the XJ and the adrenalin still pumping, you can grab one handlebar and jerk the bike back upright. The Special bars bent a bit when I did that. I've had lots of practice with both and I'm sure about this.
